Yummy….

Posted by Cantona Kickems on August 2007, 29

Both raZor^r3dz and I have frequent football breaks to get thru the work day, and I’m shure he’s mighty darn Shoobydoobydoo that Liverpool won against Toulouse (pronounced: TWO-LOSE).

We were talking not too long ago about the Premiership badboys, and those ne’er-do-wells that will never do any good in the Premiership but cause trouble. Here’s what happened:

Surfin net session

raZor^r3dz sends this pic for my viewing pleasure. Yummy…!

HORROR...Kieron Dyer's leg gives way under a challenge by Joe Jacobson

Cantona Kickems: whoa! West Ham lose out man. I wonder why they still buy players like Kieron Dyer. Those who somehow don’t do well in the EPL. Just like…

raZor^r3dz: …Damien Duff…

Cantona Kickems: …and Craig Bellamy, but in his case it’s not injury, but he’s always up to trouble.

Ok, my memory sucks, but that’s my version of how the conversation was :)

I wonder why some managers are foolish enough to get these kind of players (most likely out of desperation). As a fantasy manager, don’t EVER think about buying the following players:

Michael Owen, Kieron Dyer, Damien Duff, Craig Bellamy…

[Feel free to add on to the list!]

And raZor^r3dz goes on to forward me THIS. This guy is good when it comes to searching for the most relevant news stories…

The Early Bird Changes

Posted by Cantona Kickems on August 2007, 27

What a drubbing. It looks like the bloggers got swept by the rest of the pack. With Small Potato mired in the relegation zone, my team didn’t do much better, barely surpassing the cumulative 200-point mark. The BLUNDER of the week was Robin Van Persie which made it a 13-point swing for my team with that penalty miss.

The new guys Looprevil and Highgate FC deserve their places at the top with some astute buys, but I’m hoping that my Number Seven pointer will turn the tide in my favour.

At times like this, you’ve got to immediately look forward to the next round of games. Focus your attention on these two games in particular:

Liverpool vs Derby [Saturday 1st of September 2007 at 10.00pm Malaysian time]

Manchester United vs Sunderland [Saturday's late game at 12.15am Malaysian time]

Middlesbrough 2 – Newcastle 2

Bolton drew with Middlesbrough with their typical brand of scrappy English football.

What’s that? … Bolton is now called Newcastle?

Arsenal 1 – Man City 0

Posted by Small Potato FC on August 2007, 26

Cantona Kickem predicted a 1-1 draw in this week’s Game Predictions, which could have been the case if the Man City keeper Kasper Schmeichel scored from the corner-kick late in the game.

Oh, by the way, did I mention he saved a penalty from RVP? It appears it wasn’t just the blond hair he inherited from his dad …

Sunderland 0 – Liverpool 2

Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0 in the Stadium of Lights — goals coming from Sissoko and Voronin.

Is it just me, or does Voronin remind you of Triple H?

The Last Minute Changes

Posted by Cantona Kickems on August 2007, 25

I am among the many fantasy football managers who are spoilt for choice for this weekend. If you happen to stumble upon this latest post before the deadline [25 Aug 7:00PM SGT], then you’re just in time to observe Cantona Kickems’ EPL FANTASY FOOTBALL GUIDE TO THE 3rd week. Check out the Lucky 7 POINTERS below…

1. To Start Things Off

Firstly, the latest transfers (Belletti, Keller, Yakubu) aren’t gonna be active yet. So don’t bother searching for them for this week.

2. Forwards

Forget about the bargain strikers. With such an open playground this weekend, it’s time to splash on the cash and invest on the big guns. Don’t forget that you have plenty of Ronaldo Moolah to splurge on as well. The only notable exception in my opinion is Fernando Torres at 8.18. I’ve got him to hedge my Liverpool game prediction.

Notables:
Robin Van Persie (16.46)Small Potat
o has already forecasted for RvP to be PFA Player of the Year. I might second that if he delivers a mindblowing performance against Sven’s Smash-n-Grab.
Dirty Drogba (15.72)
Nicolas Anelka (13.58)
Andy Johnson (12.39) – injury may prevent his participation.
Craig Bellamy (12.96) – high risk/reward
Obafemi Martins (11.89)
Tevez (10.85) – I’ve been burnt by this man, but it’s hightime for Carlito to pay his dues.

What Goalkeepers and ATMs have in common

Posted by Small Potato FC on August 2007, 23

I am currently in the process of picking a new keeper for my fantasy team. How-Evra, this usual fantasy selection afterthought is made more tedious as I don’t intend to spend much on one this time around. Reason is because I am looking forward to tapping more into the potential explosive power of my frontline and midfield players – as I strongly predict a high-scoring week where the outfield will be the stars. It is, after all, still early in the season and most of the players are beginning to shake off the rust.

So I decide not having the likes of goalkeeping stars like Petr Cech and Van Der Sar in my list. They are too expensive and what’Z more I heard from reports that Van Der Sar is injured and may not be able to play this week.

Last week I selected Craig Gordon – Read the rest of this entry »
