The Last Minute Players

Posted by Cantona Kickems on September 2007, 29

GoFloyd. What’s that?

Small Potato: There…I’ve picked my squad. I’ve got Rooney, Torres, Rosicky…
Cantona Kickems: Rosicky’s out.
Small Potato: Ergh. Who should I replace him with..you think Hleb will play? Michael Johnson? Ok, i’ll take Michael Johnson.
Cantona Kickems: Hleb’s injured. Utaka will be good if you’re looking for an 8 dollar midfielder.
Small Potato: How bout a midfielder with an 11 dollar price range?
Cantona Kickems: How about…
Small Potato: Nevermind, I’ll stick with Jermaine Pennant. I’ve got Rooney, Yakubu, Torres, Fabregas, Utaka, Pennant…Bale and Robinson. I’m done…I dorn’t wanna think tooo much…

Which is by the way, the right way to go about it if you’re choosing your players an hour before deadline. Risky business is usually done if you over-think the lineup possibilities. Just be certain to give your squad a chance to put points up the board:

Always pick starters, and don’t risk the 50-50 unless you feeling lucky.

Posted by Cantona Kickems on September 2007, 27

I apologize for the infrequency in posts; just came back from a business trip to Langkawi as part of my Day Job.

The EPL fixture for this week is out: see Game Predictions for the corresponding Astro schedule!

Big news on Tuesday was the Torres hattrick against Reading:

The Roman Gamble

Posted by Cantona Kickems on September 2007, 27

You know, everybody’s been dissin Roman Abramovich for ensuring the swift departure of the Special One. All the football managers in the EPL (minus Rafa) agree that Mourinho’s “sacking” is a blow to English football.

Yes, we’ve all heard about how foolish this Russian billionaire is. He knows nothing about football. NA NA. Soccernet writer Jon Carter sums up the Chelsea predicament by questioning the long-term future of Chelsea under the Roman rule.

Initially, I concurred to these opinions. But The Roman gamble dawned upon me right before the Manchester United vs Chelsea game. The Russian billionaire foresaw the saturation point in his empire, the so-called “tipping point” as phrased by Small Potato.

Prominent Number 7s in the EPL

Posted by Small Potato FC on September 2007, 25

Presenting the current crop of number 7s in the EPL – and as mentioned in our last post, the number 7s are typically midfielders renowned for their speed and creativity in the flanks.

Well … except maybe for seasoned hit-man Schevchenko, who’s more likely to pull the trigger rather than loading the ammunition!

[Top Left--Bottom Right] Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), Harry Kewell (Liverpool), Joey Barton (Newcastle), Andriy Schevchenko (Chelsea), Fredrik Ljungberg (West Ham), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Andy Van der Meyde (Everton), Brett Emerton (Blackburn), George Boateng (Middlesbrough)

Home Underdog for EPL Week 6

Posted by Small Potato FC on September 2007, 22

Our last post on the home underdog demonstrated that the home underdog ain’t a little puppy you can mess around with.

Here’s the unanimous (and only!) home underdog vs big team of the week:

Bolton Wanderers – Tottenham Hotspurs

And our predictions?

Cantona Kickems: 2-3
raZor^r3dz: 2-2

Small Potato:
1-2

Logically, most of us have to go Tottenham’s way … but tell you what, I will buy Reebok merch if Bolton wins.

GO BOLTON! STAND UP TO THE BULLIES.

Maybe you should email Dr Phil …

Sometimes we find some curiously strange search engine terms in our blog stats, but this particular one takes the cake …

Hey, nothing wrong with being a small potato. I have come to accept that the person I am is the person I am meant to be.

Day Job and the EPL Fantasy Football Guide to Week 6

Posted by Cantona Kickems on September 2007, 22

Go where? GoFloyd! Here

This blog is dedicated to the man who re-energized the Barclays English Premier League, the man who re-ignited the passions of football for EPL fans across the world – Jose Mourinho. May you spend your 25 million wisely! (And don’t breathe too closely behind Martin Jol’s back)

Please don’t ask me why Avram Grant’s face is splashed across this entry – don’t take anything away from my Mourinho dedication; I just wanted to show you how scary this guy looks.

with Mourinho leaving, I am obliged to say that the Chelski era has ended sooner than expected. I anticipate that this is the beginning of the end for the Londoners – Roman Abramovich is continuously learning the hard way that money can’t buy him love:

  1. Departed with 50% of his wealth as part of his divorce settlement
  2. Losing Moanrinho and another 25 million pounds (little love there)
  3. Expect Drogba, Lampard, Carvalho, Ferreira and Malouda to lead the way out of Stamford Bridge.

First things first:

UEFA Champions League 2007/08

LIVE on Astro Starsports CH82, 20 Sept 0245

Sporting Lisbon vs Manchester United

Venue: Jose Alvalade, Portugal

We are now making our way towards Week 6 of the fantasy football season, with about 33 to go between now and the end of the season. Derby’s win has certainly salvaged my week, as most of my competitors had been banking on a Newcastle gold rush. Check out the standings below!
