The EPL Fantasy Football guide to Week 14

Posted by Cantona Kickems on November 2007, 30

Arsenal Crest

After seeing him deliver the crucial blow against Porto, I am declaring Torres the best striker in the EPL. It’s good to watch a Liverpool game every now and then – if I didn’t I wouldn’t have spotted the resurgence of this Australian lad by the name of Harry Kewell (6.65). He looked dangerous, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him cementing a place in the left wing (so long as he keeps himself injury-free).

On the YFF front, I was blown away by the competition in Unlucky Week 13, due to a number of inept purchases (Drogba, Joe Cole and Belletti). Drogba especially was painful because I would have spotted the news of his absence if I had stayed tuned to the injury news on Saturday.

MOVING ON, Week 14 is all about Arsenal and their double-gamer, away games against Villa (Saturday) and Newcastle (Wednesday). Read the rest of this entry »

Elano Woe

More changes needed for my injury-hit YFF squad, straight from Yahoo UK Eurosport:

Elano injury blow for Eriksson

Thu 29 Nov, 03:15 PM

Brazil playmaker Elano has been ruled out of the Premier League match at Wigan on Saturday because of a hamstring injury.Elano has been in majestic form for City so far this season and has scored four times in helping Sven-Goran Eriksson’s men into third place in the table after 14 games. Eriksson said: “He is having a scan and we do not know at the moment how long he will be out for.”

However Vedran Corluka and Emile Mpenza are both fit after taking knocks in the 2-1 victory over Reading at the City of Manchester Stadium last weekend.

Fabregas Hamstrung

Latest News from the Arsenal website:

November 29, 2007

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas was substituted in Sevilla with a hamstring injury. On Thursday Arsène Wenger revealed that he was a doubt for Saturday’s match with Aston Villa. “I don’t know how long it will be,” he Wenger. “We hope it will be very, very, very short maybe he’ll even be OK for Saturday. But the medical staff are not optimistic about that. The worst case for him realistically is 10 days.”

I’m actually glad that Fabregas is Hamstrung because his pending sale will leave me with a lotta options in the striking department that needs some bolstering. Watch out for the YFF EPL Guide to Week 14 – coming your way shortly! (ETA later today…) Read the rest of this entry »

Manchester United 2 Sporting Lisbon 1

Posted by Cantona Kickems on November 2007, 28

While you folks are stacking up on Arsenal, Newcastle, or even Sunderland players for the ever-frenetic fantasy football weekend, crucial Champions League matches are in progress (maybe just for Liverpool).

I’ve kept faithful to Cristiano Ronaldo, which essentially limits my other options in the YFF squad. Nevertheless, this video should serve as a warning to the non-believers:

Off-topic

Posted by Cantona Kickems on November 2007, 27

While some of you are still reeling from Fantasy Football Failures this past weekend, I remain optimistic. Agbonlahor was a solid buy that carried a team of non-starters (Joe Cole, Drogba, Ronaldo, Santa Cruz), and many are still hoping for a high-scoring match on Wednesday).

My chief mistakes:

1. Not checking on Drogba’s fitness

2. Not buying Warnock and Emerton even when I had them on my list of To-Buys.

While we wait for the mid-week match, here’s an off-topic video for your viewing. Funny yet extremely disturbing:
