West Ham VS Liverpool – The Small Potato Preview

Posted by Small Potato FC on January 2008, 30

Looks like that Liverpool will yet again remain Top 3 / Top 4 material in the EPL, and will probably end up fighting for that final Champions League spot at the end of the season. They started out brightly, especially with new star Fernando Torres being prolific in his goalscoring exploits. (I really REALLY regret not keeping him as an untouchable in my YFF team – got’im, then sold’im when he was injured, now I can’t afford ‘im … boo hoo. )

And the off-the-field soap dramas happening at Anfield … OK, just because the manager and some of the players are Spanish doesn’t mean the Yank owner has to equate Liverpool with a Spanish soap opera.

West Ham themselves have seen their share of soap dramas and problems towards the end of last season but they do have a solid English manager in Alan Curbishley, who I think is able to eventually mold the Hammers into a credible team in the future. Here’s hoping my man Dean Ashton (one of my 3 forwards that I have selected in my fantasy team this week) will get his name in the scoresheet. Ashton’s back, baby!

My prediction: West Ham 2 Liverpool 2

Prominent Number 7s in the EPL

Posted by Small Potato FC on September 2007, 25

Presenting the current crop of number 7s in the EPL – and as mentioned in our last post, the number 7s are typically midfielders renowned for their speed and creativity in the flanks.

Well … except maybe for seasoned hit-man Schevchenko, who’s more likely to pull the trigger rather than loading the ammunition!

[Top Left--Bottom Right] Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), Harry Kewell (Liverpool), Joey Barton (Newcastle), Andriy Schevchenko (Chelsea), Fredrik Ljungberg (West Ham), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Andy Van der Meyde (Everton), Brett Emerton (Blackburn), George Boateng (Middlesbrough)

Yummy….

Posted by Cantona Kickems on August 2007, 29

Both raZor^r3dz and I have frequent football breaks to get thru the work day, and I’m shure he’s mighty darn Shoobydoobydoo that Liverpool won against Toulouse (pronounced: TWO-LOSE).

We were talking not too long ago about the Premiership badboys, and those ne’er-do-wells that will never do any good in the Premiership but cause trouble. Here’s what happened:

Surfin net session

raZor^r3dz sends this pic for my viewing pleasure. Yummy…!

HORROR...Kieron Dyer's leg gives way under a challenge by Joe Jacobson

Cantona Kickems: whoa! West Ham lose out man. I wonder why they still buy players like Kieron Dyer. Those who somehow don’t do well in the EPL. Just like…

raZor^r3dz: …Damien Duff…

Cantona Kickems: …and Craig Bellamy, but in his case it’s not injury, but he’s always up to trouble.

Ok, my memory sucks, but that’s my version of how the conversation was :)

I wonder why some managers are foolish enough to get these kind of players (most likely out of desperation). As a fantasy manager, don’t EVER think about buying the following players:

Michael Owen, Kieron Dyer, Damien Duff, Craig Bellamy…

[Feel free to add on to the list!]

And raZor^r3dz goes on to forward me THIS. This guy is good when it comes to searching for the most relevant news stories…

The EPL Fantasy Football Guide to the 1st week part 2

Posted by Cantona Kickems on August 2007, 11

FIRST THING TO NOTE: Filled roster slots will lock down and be uneditable from 11 Aug 7:00PM Malaysian time. Also, I’ve just created an FAQ page for the YFF newbies. Feel free to comment if you have any other questions.

I’ve made some monster changes to my lineup, and will most likely stick to what I have for the season openers. By going ahead with conservative buys in Nani, Ashley Cole and Evra by trading David Bentley, Phil Jagielka and Wes Brown, I’ve essentially scrapped my diverse spread of players in favour of the big guns. Evra has especially impressed me enough during the pre-season friendlies to warrant a place in the first 11.

Here’s my current checklist (or should I say Scratch list) of the EPL fantasy players to watch. Pay close attention to the one-gamers on Saturday evening (with possible bargains to be made by trading by trading in before the 1st week scores are updated)

BARGAIN STRIKERS:
mikael forssell (6.03) – can’t see anyone in the blues lineup scoring other than him or seb larsson
roque santa cruz (6.62) – might luck out to jason roberts
nugent (6.62)
pizarro (6.62)
rolando bianchi (6.62)
